Easter 2026 message from Jackie Waters-Dewhurst, CEO of LAAT

We’re about to break up for the Easter holidays and SO many of you will be really looking forward to a rest, a reset, a break especially our amazing school staff who go above and beyond for the 4,060 children and young people in the LAAT tribe. Parents and carers too, you’ll hopefully be looking forward to the Bank Holiday weekend to spend time with family and friends -and for those who will still be working in shops or services or hospitals – thank you to them too for keeping these things going.

It’s easy to assume that everyone’s definition of  Easter is the same as ours. But of course we’re all different and Easter will mean different things to all of us.

For some, it will be the time for spring cleaning; clearing out the clutter that we’ve accumulated over the past year ready for a new spring start.

For others, it will be the end of Lent and the resumption of chocolate!

Or it will be Easter eggs and lambs and the Easter bunny.

If you’re Christian it will be the resurrection of Jesus – the culmination of the tumultuous, glorious journey of Holy week – from last supper to crucifixion to 3 days in a tomb to Easter morning and new life- a new world with love and forgiveness at its heart.

Of course, all of these things have a common theme – new life, which we are seeing in our gardens, fields or window boxes right now- daffodils, grape hyacinth and my favourites – primroses – little colourful blobs reminding us of a world waking up to a new and hopeful start.

But this is not an easy time to be hopeful – there’s a lot going on – locally, nationally, internationally. It feels like hate and division and need and chaos are winning.

I wonder though, if you remember a week or so ago, before the spring sunshine had begun, when it felt like the rain would never ever ever stop?

Well, it did, just when we thought we couldn’t take another day of it – it stopped.

Easter tells us that there are always new beginnings, that love, and forgiveness are always there – just round the corner.

Let’s hang on to that as we unwrap our Easter eggs, or clean out our cupboards or just take a break to pause and recharge –

Have a lovely break and we’ll see you on the other side

Happy Easter

God bless
