This week marked a landmark moment in LAAT’s ambitious digital strategy: pupils in Key Stage 2 and above at two LAAT schools received their very own iPads, the first step in the Trust’s plan to provide 1:1 digital access for every child.
Three years ago, LAAT set out a bold vision: to ensure every child across its 23 schools has the tools, skills, and knowledge to thrive in an increasingly digital world. The rollout of personal devices is designed to enhance learning outcomes, develop digital literacy, and provide equitable access to technology for all students.
Partnering with Apple
The Trust has partnered with Apple to make this programme possible. Each pupil has received an iPad, a protective cover, and guidance on safe and responsible use, alongside information on support and troubleshooting. Information events for pupils and parents have ensured everyone is confident and prepared to make the most of their new devices.
A Trust-Wide Digital Strategy
This initiative forms part of LAAT’s wider digital strategy, which includes:
- Upgrading school connectivity and infrastructure to support technology in the classroom.
- Providing teachers with comprehensive training and ongoing support for digital teaching.
- Developing a community-wide approach that empowers staff, pupils, and families to embrace technology.
Thanks to this groundwork, LAAT’s ultimate ambition is taking shape: over the next three years, every child in Year 3 and above across all Trust schools will have their own 1:1 digital device. iPads will also be introduced for Early Years and Key Stage 1 pupils in school, ensuring all children begin their digital journey early and are prepared for future learning.
Seeing Every Child
Jackie Waters-Dewhurst, CEO of LAAT, said:
“Being part of LAAT means being part of a community that truly values every child. Our ethos of ‘I see you’ reflects our commitment to recognising each pupil’s unique needs and ensuring they have the support and opportunities to flourish. At LAAT, everyone is seen, everyone is valued, and everyone belongs.”
This milestone demonstrates LAAT’s ongoing commitment to combining cutting-edge technology with high-quality teaching to create an inclusive, future-ready learning environment for all pupils.
