LAAT has announced a major milestone in its ambitious digital strategy: pupils in KS2 and above at two LAAT schools will be the first to receive their own digital devices next month.
Three years ago, LAAT set out a bold vision: to ensure that every child across its 23 schools has access to the tools, skills, and knowledge necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world. The initiative is designed to enhance learning outcomes, develop digital literacy, and provide equitable access to technology for all students.
Partnering with Apple
LAAT has partnered with Apple to deliver this programme, an achievement that would not have been possible for individual schools alone. Each pupil will receive an iPad, a protective cover, and a leaflet outlining safe and responsible use, as well as guidance on support and troubleshooting. The first devices will be distributed from 10th November, with information events planned for both pupils and parents to ensure everyone is confident and prepared.
A Trust-Wide Digital Strategy
This initiative forms part of LAAT’s wider digital strategy, which includes:
- Upgrading school connectivity and infrastructure to support effective technology use in classrooms.
- Providing teachers with comprehensive training and ongoing support for integrating digital tools into teaching.
- Developing a community-wide approach that empowers both staff and pupils to make the most of technology.
Thanks to this groundwork, the Trust’s ultimate ambition is becoming a reality: over the next three years, every child in Year 3 and above at every LAAT school will have their own 1:1 digital device. Additionally, iPads will be introduced for Early Years and Key Stage 1 pupils at school, ensuring all children begin their digital journey early and are prepared for future learning.
Seeing Every Child
Jackie Waters-Dewhurst, CEO at LAAT commented: “Being part of LAAT means being part of a community that truly values every child. Our ethos of ‘I see you’ reflects our commitment to recognising each pupil’s unique needs and ensuring they have the support and opportunities to flourish. At LAAT, everyone is seen, everyone is valued, and everyone belongs.”
