St Gilbert’s CofE Primary School celebrates outstanding attendance recognition

St Gilbert’s CofE Primary School, part of LAAT (Lincoln Anglican Academy Trust), is delighted to announce that its current attendance rate is above both local authority and national averages and has been recognised by the Department for Education in its latest Attendance Baseline Improvement Expectation (ABIE) report.

The school’s overall attendance stands at an impressive 97.5%, 0.9% above the median attendance of similar schools, ranking St Gilbert’s third out of 21 schools locally.

Notably, Friday morning attendance (97.9%) and Year 5 attendance (97.9%) were higher than the national average for comparable schools. In addition, the proportion of persistently absent pupils in Year 5 is lower than 95% of similar schools.

Frances Dicker, Headteacher at St Gilbert’s CofE Primary School, said: “Our attendance continues to be above the national average, reflecting the excellent practice within school and the high value our families place on education. The systems we have implemented to support and work closely with families have resulted in consistently strong attendance, positively impacting pupils’ opportunities to thrive, achieve and feel a sense of belonging. Our Attendance Committee enables us to closely monitor every pupil and provide additional support where needed, including pastoral provision.”

Jackie Waters-Dewhurst, CEO of LAAT, added: “At LAAT, we understand that school absenteeism is a complex issue, often linked to wider challenges faced by families. We have established the LAAT Absence Working Team, a dedicated group focused on supporting our schools to address absenteeism. Together, we have developed a comprehensive approach to supporting families and ensuring every child can access a high-quality education.

We are incredibly proud of St Gilbert’s for their hard work, commitment and excellent results. Their attendance figures reflect a strong culture of high expectations, care and collaboration with families, and this recognition is thoroughly deserved.”
